5 Fashion Trends To Invest In For Spring 2022
I’ve been so excited to write this post and talk about some of my favorite trends for spring! Don’t worry, florals are not on my list 😉 It’s actually kind of funny that I’m writing this because I wouldn’t consider myself to be a “trendy” dresser. Sure, I participate in the latest trends to a certain extent, but my fashion philosophy for the most part has been sticking to classic silhouettes and pieces that I can wear for years to come. Even with that intent, let’s face it, styles come and go just like trends do, and sometimes when you buy something you intend to wear for the next 3-5 years, it may not be in style for that long! It’s truly so fascinating that the collections designers put out on the runway season after season really do dictate what ends up in stores and what we end up buying!
When I was a teenager, I first started noticing trends because I saw them on my favorite characters on TV shows like Lizzie McGuire, Gossip Girl, and The Hills. Then when I went to FIDM, I trained my eye to focus more on street style to see how people were interpreting trends in their daily lives as it related to different projects I was working on. And when I worked in designer retail at Nordstrom, it was literally my job to pay attention to all of the trends and watch runway shows so that I could educate my clients on the latest fashion hitting the cat walk (which btw was so much fun!). At different points in my life I’ve always been aware of what the trends are, but I haven’t always participated in them to the fullest capacity. Sometimes certain trends are a bit too out there for me and I don’t feel like it makes sense to invest in something that I don’t love to begin with and don’t feel like I’ll get enough use out of. With all that being said, I’m incredibly excited about several of the trends for this spring season and I’m planning on participating in almost all of them! Without further ado, let’s dive into my 5 favorite trends for spring 2022!
Bride Vibes
Designers like Saint Laurent, Givenchy, and Louis Vuitton sent several all-white looks down the runway in a variety of textures and fabrics like silk, lace, organza, and tulle. Take this as a sign that you don’t need to be a bride in order to wear these luxe fabrics! With the warmer days of spring on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe and put on an all-white outfit. As you know I’m obsessed with neutrals so this trend is right up my alley! And just because “bride” is in the title of this trend doesn’t mean you need to go out and buy a frilly white dress that you may only wear once or twice. This could also look like a crisp button-down blouse paired with a pair of high-waisted white jeans and a pair of white sneakers. The fun thing about trends is that you don’t have to stray away from your own personal style just to participate - stay true to you!
Tailored Shorts
You may have already started to see your favorite bloggers or celebrities on social media sporting this hot trend that seems like it’s taking over! I won’t lie, at first I thought it was super weird seeing women wear these billowy, relaxed shorts that were reminiscent of trousers, but it’s really started to grow on me. I’ve seen them in bold colors like bright pink and also in neutral shades. I actually bought a pair in ivory that I can’t wait to show you! This is a great example of staying true to your style while also experimenting with trends; it didn’t make sense for me to try out this trend in a bold color since that’s just not really me, so I opted for a neutral so that I can mix/match with other neutral shades I already own in my closet. Instead of buying a new pair of denim shorts this spring, maybe try a pair of tailored shorts and see what you think!
Bralettes & Crop Tops
This trend is all about being confident in your own skin and showing off those abs babe! I’ve especially seen this trend take flight in relation to suiting (more on that below). Whether you pair your bralette with oversized trousers or a pair of high-waisted jeans, you’ll look on trend no matter what. I’ve been seeing some really fun interpretations of this and designers playing around with different fabrics like knits and embellished details. The only bralettes I’ve ever owned have been in stretchy, pajama-esque fabrics and have been intended to wear underneath my top, not showing it off for the world to see! I recently bought a knit bralette that I’m going to try wearing. It can be a bit scary to step out of your comfort zone but sometimes just taking that leap is all the confidence boost you need!
Suiting and Relaxed Trousers and Oversized Blazers…Oh My!
Oversized blazers and trousers are so in right now and designers like Stella McCartney, Proenza Schouler, and Fendi sent so many suiting looks down the runway! Instead of feeling too corporate by pairing your suit with a traditional blouse, the more modern option is to pair it with a bralette or crop top. Who would have thought that after working from home these past 2 years suits would become a thing again? I certainly didn’t! I’m also excited by the fact that these suits have a more relaxed vibe about them and don’t feel too stuffy. And the great thing about them is you can wear them separately too - like pairing your blazer with jeans or a bralette with your pants (talk about a capsule wardrobe moment!). I recently ordered an oversized blazer in a neutral shade that I’m going to try and pair with the tailored shorts to see what it looks like! My theme for this spring is “girls just wanna have fun” - I’m so ready to take some risks in my wardrobe and try all the things!
Fringe Details
This trend is giving me all the Great Gatsby flapper girl vibes 🤩 It might be 2022 but we’re taking it all the way back to 1922 and letting fringe details take center stage this spring. This look definitely feels more appropriate for evening…unless you want to be really extra 😉 (you do you!). If I have any weddings or special events to attend this spring I will most certainly be on the lookout for a fringe cocktail dress. I mean how fun is this vibe?! You won’t be able to take me off the dance floor in a dress like this!
Which of these 5 trends is your favorite? Will you be incorporating any of them into your wardrobe this spring season? I’d love to hear your thoughts! And I can’t wait to show you the outfits I’ve been dreaming up in my mind - more fashion inso is headed your way soon! xx
