How To Style A Flannel Button Down
I’ve never really considered myself a flannel kind of gal. If you had asked me even 2 years ago if I would wear a flannel button down I would have answered “no” quicker than I can drink a glass of perfectly bubbly moscato 😉 I always felt that they looked a bit too “country girl on the farm” or maybe even mountain lodge vibes, which there is nothing wrong with! I just never felt that flannel was really my thing or that I could pull it off, but when I first saw this shirt I loved it immediately! It was the perfect combo of cozy chic and my love for neutrals. It’s actually quite a funny story though how I got this shirt.
When we were driving home from my birthday Disneyland trip last September, I was doing some online fall wardrobe shopping when I stumbled upon this flannel on Madewell’s website. I thought it looked so cute on the model and I decided it was time to give flannel a try; it seemed like the perfect thing to wear on Thanksgiving and I had all these visions of me wearing it being cute and comfy helping my mom cook in the kitchen 😍 So I ordered it and patiently waited for it to arrive. I knew that even though I ordered it in September, I wouldn’t really be able to wear it until late October/early November since our temps don’t start to cool down until then. Patiently waiting turned into disappointment as I continued to get email update after email update saying that it was backordered. My initial dreams of wearing It on Thanksgiving didn’t pan out and I didn’t even receive it in December! At this point I was kind of over it and already made plans to return it once I received it. I got it in the mail one random day in the beginning of January and almost didn’t try it on, but I decided to go on my Instagram stories and get your thoughts! I’m so glad I did because all of you voted for me to keep it 😂💛 and I am incredibly glad that I didn’t return it! It’s honestly so comfy and I also love just wearing it while working from home. No need to worry - if you want to join in on my flannel party but don’t want to wait 4 months for it to arrive, it’s not back ordered anymore! 🥳
When I first tried it on I wore it buttoned up and tucked into my jeans - very classic! It wasn’t until a couple of days later when I wore it again that I discovered it had POCKETS 🤩 which felt very reminiscent of some shackets I own, so I decided to style it like I did in these photos: open with a coordinating tank tucked in underneath and I love how it turned out! I actually found this tank top at Target (also while I was wearing the flannel 😂) and the color matched perfectly so I obviously had to get it. Also, these new jeans I also got from Madewell are my latest obsession! I think these are my favorite pair of jeans I’ve ever owned; they are so soft and stretchy and FLATTERING! If you’re looking for a classic mid-wash, high-rise pair of jeans I can’t say enough good things about these.
What do you think of this outfit? Would you wear it? This is probably going to be my last fall/winter look for a little while because I’m just way too excited about spring! I’ve started ordering some pieces to build out my spring capsule wardrobe and I can’t wait to share them with you here on the blog and also over on my YouTube channel! Did you know I’m on YouTube now?! I still feel a bit weird saying that, but I’m incredibly excited about it! Stay tuned for a new post on Friday where I’ll be sharing some of the top spring trends for 2022 and how I plan to incorporate them into my wardrobe 😍 xx
