Oscars Red Carpet Recap 2022

Did you catch the Oscars this past Sunday?! It’s okay if you didn’t - I think all of us know what the biggest moment of the night was 👊🏽😂😳 I’m not even going to get into it because I’m sure we’ve all heard enough of it by now; I just want to talk about fashion and all the amazing red carpet moments! I actually didn’t watch the red carpet live because I thought the Oscars were starting an hour later than I originally thought, but thankfully the pictures are all over the internet and I was able to do a deep dive to pick out my favorite looks. There are always a few actresses who I look forward to seeing each year like Reese Witherspoon (who sadly wasn’t there this year, but her 2007 gown is still one of my all-time faves!), Zendaya, and Nicole Kidman, but there were so many other women whose looks I fell head-over-heels for! Here are my top 5 favorite looks from the evening.

Zendaya

Okay, I was going to save the best for last, but honestly I just couldn't wait any longer! Zendaya 100% SLAYED the red carpet this year and there were so many elements that I adored about her look. First, her hair is the perfect combination of messy & sophisticated, which exudes an “I woke up like this” vibe and I’m so into it! Now let’s talk about her actual outfit: she wore a cropped silk blouse paired with a stunning sequin skirt (both by Valentino) which I felt showed a more mature side to her, while still exuding youth and elegance. As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, showing off your abs is definitely trending right now and Zendaya is proving it’s here to stay! The train on her skirt gives little hints of drama while the crop top is giving a subtle sexy vibe - I really love the combination of these two pieces and how they compliment one another so well. I also liked that her accessories were very understated to let outfit be the star of the look. The cherry on top of the entire ensemble is her posing - she always knows how to angle her body in such a way that shows her confidence in a humble way. I could go on and on talking about how obsessed I am with everything in this photo, but I think I’ve made my point 😍

Mila Kunis

This was my second favorite look of the night, which I’m sure isn’t surprising considering it’s in my favorite color, blush pink! This Zuhair Murad gown that Milan wore was absolutely gorgeous and all of the details really stood out to me, like the sheen of the silk fabric, the drapery that hugged her silhouette in all the right places, and the train that added just the right amount of drama. Oh, and I can’t forget the sleek belt that pulled everything together! This gown is so elegant and her understated accessories really like it shine! I also love the bodice of her gown and how it feels reminiscent of the corset trend that we’re going to be seeing more of in the fall season.

Lily James

My next favorite red carpet moment was another pink number (big shocker), but this time from Lily James! What’s not to love about this look?! The fitted lace bodice and high slit of this Versace gown feel reminiscent of sexy lingerie, yet at the same time it’s done so elegantly. From the front it almost looks like a sheath silhouette, but from the side profile you see a stunning train with layers of lace and tulle - she looked like a modern day Disney princess…oh wait, she actually is! ✨ I also love the matching pink platform heels she wore with it. Platform heels are such a big trend right now and will continue to be into the fall season, so I suggest buying some now 😉

Megan Thee Stallion

All I could think was “va va VOOM” when I saw Megan’s gown! It was such a show-stopper and it hugged every curve of her body so perfectly! I love how much skin she showed off while still remaining tasteful; the sweetheart neckline, the cutout that showed off a bit of her stomach, and the high slit were so sexy yet it didn't feel like too much. I also loved the beading throughout the fabric that gave an iridescent shimmer as the camera flashes radiated off of her. The ruffle train really pulled everything together (another trend alert: ruffles!) and this gown truly felt like a gorgeous Cinderella dress!

Jessica Chastain

Last, but certainly not least, on my favorites list goes to Jessica Chastain in her lavender, sequin Prada gown. When I first saw this dress I thought, “OOH so pretty!”, and then when I saw the ruffled pom-poms on the hem of her skirt I thought, “hmm, crafty?”. For some reason those pom-poms are still throwing me off because I feel like they somewhat detract from the elegance of the rest of the gown, but overall I still really love the color, the silhouette, and the ombre detail on the bodice, so I’m choosing to overlook the hem 😉 Jessica’s gorgeous red hair and fair skin tone are so well-suited for this gorgeous lavender shade and when she walked down the red carpet she looked like she was floating on clouds!

What were your favorite looks from this year’s red carpet? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
