Ruffles on Repeat
Over the past few weeks you may have noticed a recurring theme with some of the outfits I’ve been wearing. Any guesses? Yep, stripes and ruffles is correct! Gosh you guys are so smart! Today’s post is no exception to that trend, and I suppose I’m not sure if there will be an end to it :) I bought this dress (old, similar here) last summer because of its super lightweight fabric and since our weather has been hovering in the mid 80s lately it felt like the perfect time to bring it out again. I recently read a blog post from one of my friends, Bryn, that really resonated with me. As bloggers, we can easily get caught up in feeling the need to constantly buy new clothes to feel relevant or stay on top of the trends. But in reality, that’s not how most women shop. When we find a piece we love, we don’t just wear it a couple times and then shove it in the back of our closets; it’s something we should want to wear again and again! There have been many times where I’ll buy a piece of clothing, wear it once for the blog and say “Okay I can’t wear that again, I need something new!” but that’s definitely not realistic for me at this moment (or ever?!). So, even though I’ve worn this dress before, I’m going out on a limb and wearing it again (thanks for the encouragement, Bryn!).
Like I said, the lightweight fabric is very ideal for our hot climate here in Arizona, but what initially drew me to the dress was of course the stripes, and the ruffled one-shoulder detail. So fun and feminine! I can definitely see this being worn again on 4th of July with these star embellished sandals that I’ve been wanting for a long time, with a red lip and manicure to go with it! The only downside is this dress gets wrinkled the moment you sit down, but I suppose that just adds to the “lived-in” look. Nothing can stay perfectly pressed forever ;)
Even though it’s really hard to not be in want (Psalm 23) with all of the fun new clothes that come out all the time (literally ever single day) I’m going to try and appreciate the clothes in my closet again and embrace the “capsule wardrobe” concept where everything can be mixed and matched together to create endless outfits! Who else is with me? Have a wonderful Monday friends! Xo
