Life Lately

Happy Thursday friends! Today's post has a different format than my usual posts, but I thought it would be fun to write something more candid and share what I've been up to over the past month.

March felt like a bit of a rollercoaster with my dad being in the hospital for a few days. He had a shunt put in his brain to help drain some excess fluid that was building up, and so far it's been working well! I'm so thankful that everything went well and that he was able to go home fairly soon after the surgery. It's been so great spending time with him, and if you're interested in reading more about my dad's journey, he writes his own blog which is pretty cool! Despite the trials he's gone through with his cancer diagnosis, he has remained so positive and puts all of his hope and trust in the Lord!

In one of my recent posts, I shared that I've been doing the Bikini Body Guide (BBG) workout, and I'm currently on week 4 out of 12! I've been staying on top of it each week which is really big progress for me, since I struggle with sticking to a workout program once I start one. I've also had a healthier outlook on life since starting the program which has trickled into my eating habits as well. Last month I decided to get a food allergy test at my doctor's office, and it was something I had been contemplating for awhile but wasn't ready to take the leap and do it. Since December, I've been feeling more lethargic than normal and have also been experiencing some pretty gnarly headaches in the late afternoons (not every day, but maybe 2-3 times per week). On those days when I get home from work, I'll take a 2 hour nap to get rid of the headache since any form of Advil/Motrin just won't do the trick! I was legit CONVINCED that I had a food allergy of some kind; maybe there was a specific food I was eating that was causing this tiredness and/or headaches I was experiencing. I brought this all up with my doctor, so she also wanted to test me for diabetes which really freaked me out! But my results came back and I have NO food allergies and no diabetes (PTL!). So, I'm still left feeling a little confused, because I do get these headaches from time to time (not quite as often) and I still don't really have a reason as to why I'm getting them. My hubby, Freddy, did make a good point though that on the days I get headaches I don't eat a solid breakfast before work. I've been making a good effort the past 2 weeks-ish to wake up earlier and eat something before work and since I've started doing that I have been feeling much better! I knew there was a reason I married him! Since it's been confirmed that I don't have food allergies, I still am trying to eat healthier foods (particularly snacks) while doing the BBG program. I have been really into smoked salmon a lot lately and I also love eating bell peppers with hummus! Before work, I will either eat oatmeal or have greek yogurt with blueberries, organic granola and local honey (thanks for the honey, mama!). I've found that when I have yogurt before work I feel fuller longer and I haven't been having those dumb headaches, which I'm pumped about!

In other news, we got a new MacBook last month and I have been loving every second of using it! It's like my baby. My old MacBook was a gift from my parents 8 years ago when I graduated from high school, and it's lasted so long and has been the best computer for me! But it was definitely running slow over the past couple years, and had progressively gone downhill in the last 6 months. We decided to use our tax return this year to invest in a new computer and I couldn't be happier with our decision! It's amazing how fast it runs and I feel so much more productive now because I don't have to wait 2 minutes for a webpage to load or 30 minutes to upload pictures. Plus the picture and sound quality is like 100x better making it way more fun to edit blog photos :) I got the cutest pink case and keyboard cover which make me love it even more! Freddy is still using our old laptop--we are going to take it into Apple to see if there's something we can fix to make it run faster or if we should just try to sell it for parts.

Something else we are very excited about is Freddy's upcoming graduation from ASU! I honestly can't express how proud I am of him! He's been doing online school for the past 5 years while working full-time and is graduating with honors! He has worked incredibly hard to maintain such amazing grades in school while also providing for us, and moving multiple times during that time. I won't lie, it was definitely hard making those tuition payments every 3 months and not being able to save as much as we would have wanted to, but God provided for us and thankfully we don't have any debt from it! I can't wait for his family to come out in a few weeks and for all of us to celebrate his achievements! One thing I've been thinking about a lot with this season is how exciting this milestone is. It's been 6 years since my graduation so I haven't really thought about it at all, but it really is this pivotal moment in a person's life. There is so much that lies ahead beyond this point; it's almost like having a clean slate to go out there and chase your dreams--the world is your oyster! I can't wait to see what God has in store for him!
