My Favorite Shows From Milan Fashion Week
I was so excited for Milan Fashion Week to kick off last Wednesday and to see fall collections from so many designers I’ve known and loved for years: Gucci, Fendi, Etro, Dolce & Gabbana, and Missoni (to name only a handful!). Then, things took a turn on Wednesday with the news of what was going on in Ukraine, and suddenly fashion week felt incredibly trivial in the midst of tragedy and crisis. I saw so many fashion bloggers who I follow on Instagram (that were in Milan to attend the shows) share posts with similar sentiments and messages: they were so heartbroken and upset over the events that were happening, and even though posting content for fashion week is their job, their hearts were elsewhere. I thought it was so amazing to see people in the fashion community showing their support for the people of Ukraine in this way and it was a reminder that there are so many other important things going on in the world right now. I’m continuing to pray for Ukraine; that peace would disrupt all of the chaos and hurt that is currently ongoing, and for protection and hope for the people of Ukrainian. I’m also donating to organizations that can provide help where it’s needed most. My blog is obviously not a news outlet, but I wanted to acknowledge what’s happening in our world right now. My goal is that the content I share here will inspire and uplift you in some way, and hopefully be a bright spot in your day✨ 🤍 Speaking of bright spots, I’m so excited to dive into my favorite shows from Milan, because they certainly were a ray of sunshine in what felt like a grey, cloudy week.
Fendi
I have to start with Fendi - took my breath away! It was the first collection I saw and it was by far my favorite show of all. There were so many moments when I literally squealed with delight; this collection spoke to me on so many levels! First, I want to address the most dreamy color story that had notes of the most exquisite sage green woven throughout. I have never batted an eye at this color; I’ve always thought it was a bit dull and unexciting, but I feel like I’ve awoken from a deep slumber and have an entirely new appreciation for this hue. Sage green slays (this is my new motto)!! Seeing it paired with the palest blush pink and pops of red, to the richest chocolate brown you have ever seen - this color is MAGIC and you better believe I will be incorporating it into my fall wardrobe later this year! The next thing that stood out to me were all of the sheer silk and chiffon fabrics that showed off the model’s undergarments in a really chic way. Normally, I’m not one to wear a see-through top to let the world see my bra, but each look was done in such a delicate way that it almost had an innocence about it. These light weight fabrics also featured some ruffle details as well, and it’s very clear that ruffled seams and hems will be front and center this fall. Feathers, corset tops, structured blazers, and loose-fitting trousers continued to be a theme not just throughout the collection but at New York and London Fashion Weeks as well - I’m so excited for all of these trends! Last but most certainly not least, Fendi’s newest “it” bag, the “Fendigraphy”, made a runway appearance and worn under the arm to show off the bold, gold metal lettering. This bag is a stunner and the perfect statement piece to complete your outfit! I could go on for hours raving about this collection, and it was so hard to narrow down my favorite looks to share with you, so feel free to browse it in it’s entirety here if you are just as obsessed as I am!
Tod’s
Let’s talk about Tod’s! I’ll start off by saying that until now I was only familiar with the designer in relation to their shoes (specifically the driving loafers); I wasn’t fully aware that they did ready-to-wear collections, but my blindfold has been officially removed and I’m so ready to be immersed in the world of Tod’s! The collection that Walter Chiapponi created was, I felt, clean, smart, and to the point. I hope my favorite looks above can more accurately convey what I’m trying to say, but every detail looked so well thought out; it wasn’t frilly or over the top in any way, it was just incredibly well-done and wearable. I actually read in an article that Chiapponi paired down his collection at the last minute due to the unfolding events happening in Ukraine, making it more essential. “It isn’t time for frivolity, really”, he said. If you’re new to my blog, I’m going to come out and say it now that I’m neutrals obsessed, and this collection had me in neutrals HEAVEN! It was grounded in decadent shades of camel, chocolate, grey, and black; this collection should go in the dictionary next to “capsule wardrobe”, because it doesn’t get better than this! Some looks that really stood out to me was the first one worn by Gigi Hadid: a black coat paired with a matching black blazer and trousers underneath. It created an effortless elegance to layering and set the tone for the rest of the show. Chunky, dimensional knits were another common thread (no pun intended) woven throughout the collection and could be seen in skirts, dresses, and sweaters. Each silhouette, whether it was in a suit, trench coat, or dress, struck the perfect balance between form-fitting and unstructured. Everything had such an ease to it overall; I’m so glad this was my first full introduction into Tod’s RTW and I can whole heartedly say I’m looking forward to future collections.
Jil Sander
Chic, feminine, classic: that is the essence of the stunning fall collection from Jil Sander, which had me falling head over heels! It had a very modern Audrey Hepburn vibe, with bow details, a-line silhouettes, and double-breasted coats. Every piece in the collection was the definition of lady-like luxury. I loved the playful combination of neutrals and pastels, especially since I typically associate pastels with spring, but it was so refreshing (like a fruity sorbet!) to see lighter shades of yellow, green, and blue parade down the runway amongst richer hues of gray and taupe. My favorite piece, however, was the striking double-breasted, belted, camel coat with the exaggerated collar. What a statement! At first glance you think it’s such a simple piece, but the more you stare at it, all of the exquisite details make it incredibly special and one-of-a-kind. That is the only coat I would ever need and I would be the happiest girl to own that in my closet! This collection is how I want to dress: smart, tailored, and feminine. Bravo to creative director duo Lucie and Luke Meier 👏🏻.
Paris Fashion Week, the crown jewel of all fashion weeks, started yesterday and I can’t wait to share my final recap post on that next week! xo
