How To Style Trouser Shorts For Spring

A couple of weeks ago I published a blog post about 5 spring trends that I was planning on investing in this season and I’m so excited to finally share the very first outfit with you guys! One thing I mentioned in that post is that I have never really considered myself to be a “trendy” dresser, but this year I wanted to switch things up and just have some fun with fashion! Sometimes the trends that we see coming down the runway can feel a bit dramatic and not very practical or very wearable in our daily lives, so I wanted to take the approach of putting outfits together that I could easily wear out to dinner or to an event and still feel like “me”. This outfit is one that I am LOVING right now and it combines 2 of my favorite spring trends: bridal vibes and trouser shorts.

The all-white outfit was a no-brainer for me because it’s no secret that I’m a neutrals gal at heart. There’s just something about a sleek, white outfit for spring that feels so rejuvenating. It makes a statement without being overly bold. I even stayed on theme all the way down to the shoes! These triangle block heel sandals from Schutz are so elegant and wearable for the spring and summer months (and on sale for $50!). These were actually the first thing that I bought when I started building out my spring capsule wardrobe last month; I knew they would be incredibly versatile with their neutral shade and not too high of a heel. I also love the plexi strap across the toe which helps to create that “legs for days” effect 😍 The trouser shorts came next and were a key piece that I planned to build a lot of my outfits around.

I was incredibly hesitant to try out the trouser shorts trend, mainly because they are so outside my comfort zone and the closest thing I have ever worn that resembles them are Bermuda shorts…which were so NOT cute on me 😂 As I was browsing the internet trying to find the perfect pair, these stopped me in my tracks. I loved the pleated front and the fact that they weren’t too billowy. The last thing I wanted the shorts to do was look like they were swallowing me whole or balloon out too much; I feel like this style still achieves that oversized look without drowning me. They’re so lightweight and I already know these will be a staple this season and into the summer! I have a few more outfit ideas up my sleeve that I can’t wait to share with you!

Now, can we talk about this gorgeous silk blouse?! The moment I saw it I was really feeling the bridal vibes! A few weeks ago I was attending my friend’s bridal shower and one of the activities was a “Family Feud” style quiz where a population of women were polled on common wedding-themed questions. One of them was naming the most popular wedding dress fabrics and silk was #1! So many different fabrications come to mind when I think of all things bridal (lace, tulle, organza), but silk is so timeless and elegant, it truly takes the cake (no pun intended 😉). I’ve never owned a classic, white button down like this, especially not in a silk fabric, and I already know I’ll get so much use out of it. I love the boxier shape through the body and the long sleeves that drape over my hands; the way the light reflects off the silk adds an element of elegance to the outfit and I’m so happy with how it turned out!

Trying out a new trend can feel a bit daunting and scary sometimes, especially when it’s something you’ve never tried before! The best advice I can give is try to step outside the box a little bit while remaining true to you. Maybe you’re really excited about the all-white, bridal trend but are super turned off by trouser shorts lol. Instead, maybe you opt for a pair of white denim and a lace top! As one of my friends always reminds me, “It’s better to try than wonder what if!” What are your thoughts on these 2 trends? Are you into them or would you pass? Let me know in the comments!
