How To Pull Off The Oversized Blazer Trend | Outfit Inspiration
Over the last month I’ve talked about a few major trends coming down the pike this spring like baggy jeans, large totes, and bralettes worn as tops (spoiler: I’m wearing all 3 in these photos 😉), but this post is dedicated to one of the most timeless layering pieces of all time: the blazer. I still remember the very first blazer I bought when I was 18 (a boyfriend blazer from J.Crew in 2010) and feeling like I had reached peak adulthood 😂 It’s a classic wardrobe staple that has taken on many iterations as trends cycle through over the years, but I can’t recommend them enough and this oversized style is going to be “in” for the foreseeable future. You might be wondering if blazers are strictly meant to be worn at the office, but I’m here to tell you that couldn’t be further from the truth! These are such a classic layering piece that can be worn in a variety of different ways (make sure you’re following me over on LTK for daily outfit inspo), my personal favorite being with a pair of jeans.
Oversized blazers made their big debut on the runways last spring and were mainly worn as a matching set with trousers, but this year the blazer is being reinvented and restyled for everyday wear. And the best part is this trend is going to dominate 2023 - meaning you’ll get more longevity and wear out of your investment! There’s several different ways you can incorporate a blazer into your wardrobe and in this post I’m sharing a few styling tips with you!
A big theme that we’re seeing with blazers this season is transitioning away from neutral tones and embracing brighter color palettes. Think lime green, Barbie pink, or this orchid/lilac pink shade! When I spotted this blazer in this stunning pink shade I swooned 😍 It’s totally up my alley in my favorite color family and I knew it would be a welcomed addition to my closet. The key to styling a blazer in a bright color is to pair it back to complimentary hues and letting your layering piece be the star of the show. I really wanted my blazer to pop with this outfit so I opted for a light wash pair of distressed jeans, neutral heels, and a neutral bralette top. Of course, if you’re more of a neutrals lover and don’t think you’d get a lot of wear out of a bright color, then by all means you could definitely go for an oversized blazer in grey, cream, black, or camel. You’ll still be rocking the trend in a way that suits you best!
If you want to really max out the oversized blazer trend, I recommend wearing it with other trending pieces for the ultimate street style outfit! I felt a bit out of my comfort zone with this outfit, mainly because of the bralette and baggy jeans. I’m not used to exposing this much of my stomach unless I’m in a bikini at the pool, and this is my first pair of loose-fitting jeans that don’t hug my butt and thighs 😅 I love pushing myself to wear pieces that I might not typically gravitate towards and trying new things. I think it’s important to be bold and intentionally put myself in uncomfortable situations so that I can grow in my self-confidence! Plus, when I try new things I usually end up loving them and these jeans are a great example of that. I love this more relaxed silhouette and they are honestly way more comfortable than skinny and straight leg jeans 😂 I don’t know why it took me so long to get on board with the dad jean trend, but better late than never!
