Highlights From New York Fashion Week 2023

I love this time of year when the weather is just starting to show hints of spring and fashion month is kicking into high gear - there’s so much to look forward to in the world of fashion and I get giddy with excitement seeing the latest designer creations strutting down the catwalks. The festivities always start off in New York which feels so poignant for the city that never sleeps and always seems to be bustling with creative energy. This time of year is centered around Fall ‘23 ready-to-wear collections and even though we’re just coming out of the fall season, it makes me look forward to all the trends coming our way later in the year. Let’s dive into my favorite highlights and collections from NYFW!

Christian Siriano

This was one of the first shows that kicked off NYFW and one of the first things that grabbed my attention wasn’t the looks coming down the runway, but the celebs who were in the audience. I saw on Instagram that Lindsay Lohan was sitting in the front row alongside Julia Stiles and it was the early 2000’s I didn't know I needed! Lohan flew in from Dubai to support her model siblings who were walking the runway which I thought was so cool! Speaking of the runway, this collection was chock full of elegance and romance - it was absolutely stunning. Siriano continued some of the trends we’re seeing this spring like rosette appliqués, drapery, coordinating two-piece ensembles, and column-silhouette dresses. I loved seeing beautiful pops of fuchsia (this color is still going strong this year!) amongst the elegant black looks; this show was definitely a fantastic way to start NYFW on a high note!

Rodarte

I’ve never watched the Addams Family or Wednesday, but it was nearly impossible to miss that vibe from Rodarte’s fall collection. It was like elevated goth meets fairy princess. It was an interesting mix of edgier pieces and softer silhouettes, but I loved the “glam goes grunge” looks that fully came to life with the help of some dramatic makeup and head pieces! Column dresses, sheer details, and bows were the major themes seen throughout this collection and I’m very excited to incorporate those elements into my wardrobe later this fall.

Proenza SchouleR

Leave it to Proenza Schouler to take effortless dressing to the next level time and time again. I’ve loved this designer for the last decade and the way that they continue to elevate timeless silhouettes into something unique and special. My favorite piece in this collection is the silver metallic dress shown in the middle - it’s such a fun and sophisticated way to embody this trend that can be dressed up or down!

Ulla Johnson

Ulla Johnson’s collections leave me swooning season after season and I love her trademark style that’s a beautiful blend of NYC street style meets world traveler. Her designs exude an elevated bohemian quality that has garnered loyalty among celebrities and fashion lovers alike. This collection featured a lovely array of seasonal hues like burnt orange, sage green, and rich ochre. It’s my dream to own one of her creations and maybe this will be my year 😉

Carolina Herrera

I had to save the best for last with this one…creative director Wes Gordon has done it again! It was so hard to narrow down my favorite looks because I loved them all. So many gorgeous colors were on display throughout the entire collection and I’m now so inspired (and determined) to find a bright pink outfit to wear this spring/summer! I loved the babydoll and a-line dress silhouettes and the gorgeous brocade-inspired patterns seen on some of the dresses. When I think of Carolina Herrera I think of New York City chic - basically what Sarah Jessica Parker would wear walking down 5th Avenue 😍 This is a designer whose collections I always look forward to and I felt giddy with excitement looking through all these photos - such a stunning presentation of craftsmanship and artistry!
