Barbie Influenced My First Birkenstocks Purchase

I literally never thought in a million years that I would own a pair of Birkenstocks, but leave it to Barbie, the OG fashionista, to completely change my mindset on these sandals! I used to think (and still sort of do…it’s not a switch you can just flip!) they were weird and more of a “mom” shoe, despite how many bloggers and celebs I’ve seen over the years wearing and rocking them! Some of my friends have pairs and always rave about how comfortable they are, but I swore that nothing would convince me to own a pair. Well, never say never!

It was specifically the very last outfit Barbie wore in the movie (shown above) that convinced me I needed these shoes. I loved that her final outfit was more casual and practical, because what else would you wear to a gynecologist appointment?! 😂 Her shoes offered a subtle pop of pink compared to the rest of her bold, vibrant outfits and as soon as we got in the car to drive home from the movie I immediately started shopping for a pair of Birkenstocks.

I LOVE the subtle blush pink color because it’s essentially a neutral that will go with almost anything. The chunky silhouette took some getting used to at first but I’ve worn them a few times now and they’re actually really comfortable 😍 I’m wearing them as we speak on the plane as I wrote this blog post - definitely a great travel shoe. It’s funny, now that I have a pair I notice other women wearing them constantly whereas before I wouldn’t have given it a second thought.

Once I got the shoes in the mail (thanks to Revolve’s speedy shipping it only took a couple days!), it was time to start recreating the outfit. Thankfully I already had everything else to complete the look: a neutral blazer, white tank, and mid-wash jeans. It’s a simple outfit that doesn’t require much effort but gives off a polished, chic look, which is what I love about it! Add in the Birkenstocks and it brings a casual aesthetic to the “business” vibes. I also added a few “Barbiefied” accessories to throw in some sparkle and feminine touches. This pearl necklace with the gold heart clasp is so cute!
