Go Gray In May

Today's post is a bit more personal, but it's about a topic that is very near and dear to my heart. If you've been reading my blog for the past year and a half, then you may know that my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer in January 2017. It's not something I talk about very often, but since May is National Brain Tumor Awareness Month, I felt this would be a great opportunity to share some of his journey!

Prior to his diagnosis, my dad lived a very healthy and active lifestyle. He loves to golf, hike and travel. What's hard with brain cancer, and the specific glioblastoma tumor that was found in his brain, is that doctors haven't been able to pinpoint the cause. There's no way of preventing this disease. When my dad was first diagnosed, I honestly wasn't sure what to expect and didn't really know anything about brain cancer. I've been doing more research, and in that, I've learned that there aren't a lot of treatment plans available to patients. It can be disheartening to discover this information, but there is GOOD news and lots to be thankful for!

My dad has been writing a blog about his journey since his diagnosis, and it's been so encouraging to see his faith in God grow more and more each day! He's had so many incredible, divine encounters with the Lord over the past year, and it proves that He is with my dad every step of the way; He will never leave him or forsake him (Deut. 31:8). Thankfully my dad has still been able to enjoy the things he loves throughout his journey, like hiking, traveling and eating delicious food! I encourage you to read some of his posts--they are truly inspiring and show just how much God cares for each one of us! It's been so wonderful being able to spend time with my dad, and I'm hopeful for more treatment options in the near future for brain cancer patients. That's why I'm going "gray in May" to raise awareness! In doing my research, I came across an organization called ABC2 (Accelerate Brain Cancer Cures) and they are determined to find a cure for brain cancer. One of the ways I'm raising awareness and supporting this cause is by participating in a fundraising event this coming December! It's called Over The Edge for Brain Cancer, and I'll be repelling down the side of the Grand Hyatt hotel in San Diego--the tallest building on the waterfront! I'm raising $1500 (or more!) to participate, and I need your help! All of the proceeds go towards brain cancer research, and I'll be setting up a GoFundMe page very soon for any of you that want to help contribute :)

Thank you for reading today's post! It means a lot to be able to open up on this platform and share the mountains and valleys of life with you. To be honest, there have been times when it's hard to stay focused and consistent with the blog when the trials of life come swirling around you. But writing posts is something I enjoy doing, and even though some of them are more difficult to write, I appreciate you taking the time to read them and follow along this journey with me. I hope you all have a great weekend! xo
