Memory Lane Monday: San Diego
This week my husband and I will be traveling to San Diego, and I couldn’t be happier about it! Sand, surf and sunshine is just what the doctor ordered to cure me of the gloomy weather blues I've been experiencing in Austin lately. Plus, my cousin is getting married, which is the best reason to celebrate! I have so many fond memories spending countless summers in San Diego with family, and taking weekend trips while in college; it almost feels like a second home to me. After spending so much time in this city, there are a few local spots I’ve come to know and love; here are my five favorites:
1. Point Loma Seafoods
Family tradition requires that as soon as my aunt picks us up from the airport, we head straight for the always fresh and delicious Point Loma Seafoods. There’s nothing quite like enjoying a batch of fish and chips, or a crab sandwich, made from fish that’s brought in daily by the owners. Grab a shaded table under an umbrella , or pick a spot on the upper deck in the warm sun, where you can get a great view of the harbor. It’s just 5 minutes away from San Diego International Airport, and makes for the perfect lunch spot. What more could you want?
2. Seaport Village
I’ve been going to Seaport Village with my parents ever since I was a little girl. One of my favorite memories was riding the merry-go-round with my mom, and having my dad take pictures of us as we went round and round. I also loved checking out all of the unique shops that they have to offer; I would almost always end up getting a pair of board shorts and a t-shirt at one of the clothing stores. As an adult, I still love walking around this outdoor center, and walking near the water to get a view of the stately Coronado Bridge.
3. Coronado Island
This is probably one of my favorite places to explore while visiting San Diego. I love the quaint, beach town vibes and gorgeous views that Coronado offers; it feels like a little escape from the rest of the city. And let’s not forget the historic Hotel del Coronado that welcomes you with it’s iconic red-shingled roof. It’s always been a dream of mine to stay here, and I hope that one day that dream will become a reality!
4. Noon Design Shop
I was introduced to Noon by my cousins several years ago, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. Their simplistic jewelry designs are timeless and classic, and pair well with any outfit, casual or dressy! I have several of their earrings and necklaces, and I wear them on a regular basis because they are so versatile. If you’re in the Ocean Beach area, I definitely recommend checking out their charming boutique, that is also filled with yummy bath products and scented candles.
5. Fashion Valley Mall
On family vacations, there would usually be a day that my dad would go golfing with his friends, so that left only one thing for my mom and I to do—go shopping! I love that this mall combines great stores and the practically perfect San Diego weather into one great experience. One of my favorite things about Fashion Valley Mall though, is Boudin Bakery! This was where I first fell in love with their classic clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl, and I never looked back. This alone is worth the drive to the mall, and is the best way to begin a successful shop-till-you-drop adventure.
My list could go on and on, but honestly what I enjoy even more than the fun places, are the people I get to spend time with while I’m there, and the memories we make together. Stay tuned as I share more of our San Diego adventures on the blog this week, and don’t forget to soak up the sun with me on Instagram @blushfulbelle. See you soon!
Blushfully,
