Scandinavian + Neutral Home Decor Inspiration
Hi friends! đđ» Iâm so excited to share some of the home decor inspo that Iâve been LOVING the past few weeks! Freddy and I have been living in our apartment surrounded by boxes for the last 10 MONTHS which is crazy I know đ€Ș So I wanted to tell you the story of whatâs been going on, why we boxed up 90% of our stuff last June, and why weâre getting ready for a decoration transformation!
For context, Freddy and I have lived in the same apartment for the last 4 years - and as I type that itâs really hard to believe that much time has gone by! For those that donât know, Freddy is a property manager for an apartment complex and we live at one of the communities within the company he works for, so we get a small rent discount which has been so wonderful. The apartment we live in isnât amazing, but it works. The complex was built in the 80s so the kitchen/bathroom arenât very updated and the layout isnât truly open concept, so itâs just a bit wonky and we feel like for the 900-something square feet that we have, the space is under utilized just based on how itâs built/laid out. Last June when we were right in the thick of the pandemic, Freddy and I felt a really strong urge to move to a new apartment and have a more updated, open concept space that would suit our needs a bit more. Since I was working from home at the time (and will continue to permanently) I was craving a legit home office space where I could shut the door at the end of the day and not have to use our dining table as my desk. We felt so sure that this was the right decision so we went to U-Haul and bought a set of boxes and boxed up 90% of our things (books, movies, decor items, kitchen stuff we werenât using daily, etc.) However, after much searching, we couldnât really land on a place that we loved that was within our budget, and since Freddy was still going into the office everyday, it didnât make sense to move somewhere else that would add more time to Freddyâs daily commute. As they say, hind sight is 20/20 and we probably shouldnât have boxed up our stuff until we found a place to move toâŠbut oh well!
Even though we hadnât made a decision on a new apartment in June, we decided to keep our things in boxes in the event that we found a place a few months down the road. A few months came and went and we were STILL living in our current apartment. I think the reason I wasnât ready to unbox our stuff was because I felt like I was admitting defeat. I didnât want to come to terms with the fact that God had other plans and probably wanted us to stay in our apartment while I desperately just wanted a nicer place that in my mind would be more comfortable. It wasnât until April (yep, this month) that Freddy and I talked it out and realized that while we may not love our current apartment, we need to make it homey and enjoyable to live in while weâre still here, rather than being surrounded by boxes and waiting for a future date when weâll eventually move since we donât know when that will be - only God does. With rent & home prices being so high right now (everyone and their mom is moving to AZ!) we just donât really know when weâll be leaving our current apartment. So, while we were in California a couple of weekends ago visiting Freddyâs family, we got our carpets cleaned and are starting the process of redesigning our living room to make it more cozy and livable!
Iâve done a lot of Pinterest-ing over the years dreaming of our future home and what I want it to look like. Itâs hard to narrow down what style I love because I go back and forth all the time! I love a French countryside vibe with some farmhouse elements, but I also love some modern and industrial elements when the mood strikes. As Iâve gone back through my home inspiration board I see a common theme that keeps resurfacing, which is clean, breezy neutrals with some textured elements. Is it really that surprising? đ You guys know how much I love neutrals! Iâm calling it a mix of âchic Scandinavian & California coolâ đ I really just want our living space to look cozy, effortless, and put together.
Target is usually the first place I look when Iâm on the hunt for home decor - they always have amazing pieces from AMAZING designer collabs (hello Magnolia & Studio McGee đ) and you canât beat the prices! Everything Iâve picked out is from Target minus the rug and couch, but Iâm sharing the links to everything at the bottom of this post so you can easily shop! It seemed like last year everyone was on a home renovation kick since we were all stuck in our homes and wanted to make our spaces more functional, beautiful, or just down right enjoyable. Weâre a little late to the part this yearâŠ.but better late than never! đ Have you redecorated your home in the last year, or is there a home project youâre working on this year that youâre excited about? Let me know! Iâd love share design inspiration ideas - and make sure youâre following me on Pinterest! I update my boards weekly and Iâm always finding new things that inspire me đ
