A Comfy T-Shirt Dress That's Work From Home Approved
I, along with many other Americans, have had to quickly adjust to work-from-home life over the past several weeks. I’ve been working from home for a month now, and believe me when I say that I’m so grateful that I have the option to do so. I worked in retail for 7 years prior to joining corporate America a little over a year ago, and I would be in an entirely different situation right now if I was still working in retail. I still have many friends who are in the retail and service industries and it breaks my heart knowing what they’re going through right now.
It’s true, however, that those of us who are working from home are all facing different dynamics and struggles, trying to figure things out day by day. There are many people with young children who are having to juggle homeschooling and their job all at once, and I totally feel for them! I’m grateful that my WFH situation was fairly easy to adjust to—Freddy works in an essential business so he has continued to go into work every day, and I get the apartment to myself with little to no distractions. Things don’t feel vastly different for me work-wise, since all of my work is done from a computer, and most of my team is spread throughout the country so video calls are the norm. There is one thing though that has been a struggle when it comes to adjusting to WFH life, and that is waking up early enough to get ready for the day!
I have never been an early riser (except for when I had to wake up at 5:45 for high school and somehow stayed awake during the day!), so even when I was going into the office I would struggle with hitting the snooze button 3-4 times each morning. Now that I know I only have to walk a few feet to my dining table/make-shift desk in the mornings, I use that as my excuse to wake up 15 minutes before I need to turn on my computer and log-in for the day. It’s a habit I desperately need to break! One thing that has helped though, is picking out something cute and comfy to wear the night before, like this $15 t-shirt dress from Target! It comes in 9 colors and is seriously so easy to throw on with a pair of sneakers (or slippers!) and a swipe of chapstick—that’s truly all you need to pull this look together! I’ve noticed that on the days where I even slightly “get ready” by wearing my hair down and putting on something other than my daytime pajamas, I instantly feel more productive and focused throughout the day. Even though getting ready each morning is still a work in progress for me, I’m excited to be better about it and wake up with intention! If you’re working from home and have any tips or tricks that are working for you, leave them in the comments! Stay healthy and safe, friends! xo
