Wedding Guest Dresses
When Spring rolls around, it's that time of year when the wedding invites start flooding your mail box, which means so many celebrations are around the corner! That also means it's time to start looking for dresses to wear. It can be stressful at times trying to find the right outfit to wear to a wedding, while keeping in mind the "no white" rule and making sure you're not too over or under dressed for the occasion. And of course, if some weddings overlap with some of the same people attending, you don't want to look like you're wearing the same dress to each one! Today I'm sharing some of my picks with you to help in your search of the perfect guest-of wedding dress, and I promise they won't disappoint!
This time last year, I was prepping to attend my cousin's wedding in San Diego, so I wanted a dress that was appropriate for the location, but one that didn't read as too casual (#beachvibes). Ted Baker is a designer I typically look to when I'm looking for something to wear to a wedding, or other cocktail event, because they create classic silhouettes, beautiful prints (also, this isn't sponsored, I just really love their dresses!) and the quality is one I know I can trust. I chose this fit and flare style because of it's fitted bodice and flirty skirt, which is perfect for twirling around the dance floor (or the town plaza, whichever suits your fancy).
We were actually planning to do a post on this dress and take pictures a couple of hours before the wedding started, but we hit a little bump in the road. And by bump I mean that I forgot to pack Freddy's chinos for the wedding and he literally only had jeans!! So we called a cab and rushed off to Nordstrom to get him a new pair! Needless to say we just barely made it in time, so pictures did not happen...and a year later here we are ;) Nevertheless, I still love this dress and I'm so happy that it's currently available in two updated prints for the season here.
A fit and flare silhouette is flattering on most body types, because it cinches in right at the waist and flows down from there, creating a nice A-line silhouette. However, some women prefer a more fitted silhouette in a dress, and these options here and here are beautiful, and also feature lovely floral patterns for Spring! No matter which style you prefer, one important factor to consider when looking at a dress for a wedding is location, location, location. It truly dictates the attire that you will be considering, so check the invitation! If it's a backyard wedding, a sundress in an eyelet lace or a cotton poplin will be perfect. If the wedding will be taking place in the evening at a luxury resort, something a bit more formal might be in order. Or if it's at a church, make sure you watch the dress length and neckline--nothing's worse than feeling like everything's hanging out in God's house!
I've scoured the internet for some of my favorite guest-of picks that I'm sharing with you below! Aside from some of the tips I mentioned earlier about finding the right dress, I feel that the most important one is making sure you feel comfortable in it! When you're comfortable in a dress, it's a confidence booster and you'll be able to enjoy the evening celebrating the newlyweds and dancing the night away in style. xo
Blushfully,
Belle
